The Science Behind LAUNCH
Fermentation
Fermentation uses microorganisms to make useful products. Similar to how yeast makes bread or beer, our microbes consume nutrients from organic waste and convert them into bioplastic.
Genetic Engineering
Genetic engineering allows us to improve our production microbes. We help them use different waste streams more efficiently, grow reliably, and produce greater amounts of high-quality PHA.
PHA Production
As our microbes grow, they naturally store PHA inside their cells. This bio-based material can then be recovered and used to create high-performance, compostable plastic products.
Purification
After fermentation, we separate the PHA from the cells and purify it using an aqueous process. The result is a clean biopolymer ready for formulation and product manufacturing.
One Platform. Multiple Feedstocks
Launch’s technology is built to work with a wide range of organic feedstocks, including yeast by-products, lactose-rich streams, waste glycerol, and volatile fatty acids produced from organic waste. Each application uses the same core fermentation and purification platform, enabling us to adapt our process to different industries while maintaining a scalable path to production.
